欲取姑与的典故

春秋时期，晋国当权贵族智伯倚仗权势向魏桓子强行索要土地。魏桓子的谋士献计，同意给土地，这样智伯就会更加贪婪，再向其他贵族要地，其他贵族就会联合对付他，这叫“将欲取之，必姑与之”。后来智伯被贵族联合打败，魏桓子得到更多的土地。
