花貌年年溺水滨，俗传河伯娶生人。
西河鉴赏
诗题“西河”是水名，在今山西省境内。应是西门豹巧惩“河伯娶妇”的所在地。西门豹是战国初年魏文侯的一位循吏。他做地方的长官时，调查民间疾苦，禁止为河伯娶妇，并征发百姓开渠灌田，兴修水利，是个为百姓谋福利的好官。“名闻天下，泽流后世”。《西河》即以他的这段佳话为题材。诗的头两句叙述了河伯娶妇陋习的内容。当地每年都要把花容月貌的少女投入水中，活活溺死。这就是河伯(即河神)娶人的习俗。诗句语言平实，叙述概括有表现力。“花貌”之青春年少，“溺”之惨不忍睹，“年年”之时间久远，无时可幸免，均道出了“河伯娶妇”的残酷与荒诞。第二句的“传”字含蓄耐寻，说明这种不合情理的事是地方上的官吏勾结祝巫(古代专以降神召鬼为职业的人)为了搜刮老百姓的钱财而编造出来的。真正祸害人民的不是河伯而是这些贪官、坏人。这个“传”字，下笔虽轻，语气却重，作者的憎恶感情溢于言表。第三句用“明宰投巫”叙述西门豹智斗恶势力。他知道“河伯娶妇”是“从来久远矣”，设法智取，以迷信打击迷信，以其人之道，还治其人之身。装作真信河伯要娶妇，借口新妇不美，要另找一个，接连把三个巫婆投入河中去向河伯禀告，又把三老扔到河里，使掾吏、豪绅“叩头旦破，额血流地，色如死灰”。这样，不用禁令，河伯娶妇的事自然禁绝。“投巫”是颇有戏剧性的一幕，表现了西门豹的机智能干和沉着老练。作者在“宰”前冠以“明”字，充分表现了对西门豹的赞赏和钦佩。
这首诗，重在叙述，句句叙述，四句诗蝉联而下，构成了有头有尾的完整故事。再现了历史上一个有意义而有趣的故事。诗中不着议论，议寓叙中，作者不着抒情，情含其中。作者的笔头已由古到今，感情由赞赏到企盼，对现实的针对是不言而喻的，结出了言外之象。作者以史实讽喻现实，用古人以警时人，创作意图是很明确的。这首诗客观地赋咏历史人物，是本色的咏史诗。

（全唐诗云：一作王遵）（约公元八七七年前后在世），字不详，宣州泾县人（唐诗纪事作宣城人。此从唐才子传）。生卒年均不详，约唐僖宗乾符中前后在世。初为小吏。家贫，借人书，昼夜苦读。工为绝诗。与许棠同乡。咸通七年，（公元八六六年）擢进士第。后五年，棠始亦及第。遵诗有集《唐才子传》传世。他的诗绝大部分是怀古诗，有的是对历史上卓越人物的歌颂；有的是借历史人物的遭遇来抒发自己怀才不遇的情绪；有的是歌颂历史上的兴亡故事来警告当时的统治者；有的直接反映当时的现实生活，这些诗都有一定的思想意义。寄托了对现实生活的深沉感慨。
