译文
一个美女，睡在水晶帘里面玲珑的颇黎枕上，在这上面睡觉的女人干什么呢？相思怀念呢，屋里并不冷，暖暖的，香炉上焚着香，连绣着鸳鸯的锦被都是香的，这样的环境下少不了惹梦。
江边那绵长而细软的柳丝，刚刚发新芽，看上去朦朦胧胧，像笼罩在一片烟霭之中。春天来了，大雁开始向北飞了，大雁一字飞过时，天上那一轮残月就要消失了。
注释
菩萨蛮：词牌名。此词咏立春或人日。全篇上下两片大意从隋薛道衡《人日诗》：“人归落雁后，思发在花前“脱化。
颇黎：李白《玉阶怨》“却下水精帘”，李商隐《偶题》“水纹簟上琥珀枕”，表示光明洁净的境界和这句相类。“颇黎”既玻瓈、玻璃。
藕丝秋色浅：当断句，不与下“人胜参差剪”连。藕合色近乎白，故说“秋色浅”，不当是戴在头上花胜的颜色。这里藕丝是借代用法，把所指的本名略去，古词常见。如温庭筠另首《菩萨蛮》“画罗金翡翠”不言帷帐；李璟《山花子》“手卷真珠上玉钩”不言帘。这里所省名词，当是衣裳。胜：花胜，以人日为之，亦称“人胜”。
香红：指花，即以之代花。着一“隔”字，两鬓簪花，光景分明。
玉钗头上风：幡胜摇曳，花气摇荡，都在春风中。

菩萨蛮·水精帘里颇黎枕鉴赏
这首词所写的主人公是一位年轻女子。水精，就是水晶。颇黎，就是玻璃。门窗上挂着水晶制成或者晶莹透明赛似水晶的帘子，床上放着玻璃制成或滑润细腻如玻璃般的枕头。第一句虽仅举出两件器物，但女子房中其他陈设的精致讲究由此便可想见。更重要的是，房主人情操的高雅美洁，也就可以借此窥见端倪。此刻，女主人公正恬然入睡于她那绣有鸳鸯图案的锦被之中，做着一个个旖旎的梦。《古诗十九首·客从远方来》：“客从远方来，遗我一端绮。……文采双鸳鸯，裁为合欢被。”被子用香炉熏过，既暖且香，故能“惹梦”——带有温柔绮丽色彩的春梦。开篇两句，仅十四个字，并列地写了水精帘、颇黎枕、鸳鸯锦三件器物，却并不给人平板呆滞之感，因为其中着意点染了轻轻浮动于室内的香气和主人公幽远飘缈的梦思，就使这本来静止的画面变得有了生气，甚至充满了幻想的意味。
“江上柳如烟，雁飞残月天”，紧承“暖香惹梦”而来，因此清人张惠言认为这两句写的就是女主人公的梦境（见张惠言《词选》对此词的评注）。这自然不无道理。可是，尽管日常生活中的梦有许多确是不可思议、无从解释的，在文学作品中所写的梦却大抵能找到某种现实的原因或契机。因此，即使“江上”两句写的是梦境，这梦境也必然与女主人公的生活实境有些关系。根据温庭筠的另一首词《望江南·梳洗罢》可以想象，这位梦见“江上柳如烟”的女子，或许也是住在临江的楼阁里，每日对着江水在思念着心上人。她的梦，很可能便是她平日习见景致的幻化表现在梦境里。江岸边的柳树迷蒙似烟，晕成朦胧的一片。侵晓时分，月亮残了。在熹微的晨光中，大雁已经开始一天的旅程，它们正结队飞回北方。寂静的天空中，也许还偶尔传来它们的长唳。这是一幅十分凄清迷离又有声有色的画面。而这幅春江晓雁图的意义是在画面之外：冬天过去了，春天已经归来，因避寒而飞往南方的大雁，此时正连夜飞返家乡，唯独楼上那女子所思念的人却仍然没有音耗。眼前的景致既是她平时倚楼眺望所常见，也就难免化作她这时在鸳鸯锦被里所做之梦。另外，锦被上绣鸳鸯也是作者有意的安排。成双成对的鸳鸯，恰恰反衬了女主人公的孤单寂寞。
上阕的妙处全在借景物作烘托，以极其含蓄委婉的笔法暗示女主人公的生活情状和心理活动。“水精帘里”二句是近景，“江上柳如烟”二句则是远景，不管近景远景，都紧紧围绕着女主人公的生活和情绪落笔。在前二与后二句看似松散的结构中，实际上一贯穿着内在的有机联系。
词的后半正面刻划这位女主人公，同样有着含蓄深婉之妙。“藕丝秋色浅”写衣着。藕成熟于秋季，故将淡紫近白的藕合色称作“秋色”，又转而用这色彩来代指藕合色丝绸做成的衣裳，这是中国古代诗文常用的一种修辞手法。
“人胜参差剪”。人胜又叫花胜、春胜，是用彩纸或金箔剪刻而成的一种饰品，可以贴在屏风上，也可以戴在发鬓上。唐时风俗在正月七日（又称人日）这一天，要剪戴花胜以迎接春天到来，尤以妇女喜爱此项活动。从这句看，女主人公参参差差地剪出花胜准备佩戴，似乎兴致不浅。
“双鬓隔香红”。以描写气味和颜色的“香红”代指好的面容，正如以“藕丝秋色浅”代指衣裳，手法相同。这里的“隔”字用得颇讲究，因为双鬓正是隔开在脸庞两边，形象鲜明如见，而且仿佛“双鬓”有了某种主动性，还似有若无地流露出一丝遗憾不足的意味。
“玉钗头上风”，承上双鬓连写女主人公的头饰。她头上插着的玉钗在春风中轻轻摇曳摆动。“风”在这里是名词作动词用，形容女子的头饰在微微颤动的样子。
这四句刻划人物用的也是借物衬托之法。写女子的衣着、头饰，写她剪制春胜的活动，并没有一句直接写她的形貌，却使人可以想见她的外形与心灵之美好可爱。最奇妙的是整个下阕根本不提她的满腹心事，只是一味渲染她的美丽和她剪春胜的动作，而这就使她的孤单处境和悠悠梦思更加令人觉得可叹。词人对她的同情，也就尽在不言之中。
温庭筠是唐代诗人中较早致力于词的创作的一个，是花间派的代表作家之一。他的词多写女子日常生活，当是受到南朝宫体诗的一定影响。但温词常着重表现人物心理活动，而且是借助写景写物等手法来表现，因此在艺术境界上又与宫体诗有所不问。这些从这首《菩萨蛮》词都可以看得很清楚。

温庭筠（约812—866）唐代诗人、词人。本名岐，字飞卿，太原祁（今山西祁县东南）人。富有天才，文思敏捷，每入试，押官韵，八叉手而成八韵，所以也有“温八叉”之称。然恃才不羁，又好讥刺权贵，多犯忌讳，取憎于时，故屡举进士不第，长被贬抑，终生不得志。官终国子助教。精通音律。工诗，与李商隐齐名，时称“温李”。其诗辞藻华丽，秾艳精致，内容多写闺情。其词艺术成就在晚唐诸词人之上，为“花间派”首要词人，对词的发展影响较大。在词史上，与韦庄齐名，并称“温韦”。存词七十余首。后人辑有《温飞卿集》及《金奁集》。
