小楼连苑横空，下窥绣毂雕鞍骤。朱帘半卷，单衣初试，清明时候。破暖轻风，弄晴微雨，欲无还有。卖花声过尽，斜阳院落；红成阵，飞鸳甃。

译文
那园林边的小楼横空而立，从上看下面是华美的车马奔驰而过。半卷起红色帘子，刚试完单衣，已是清明时节了。一会儿微雨一会儿晴，刚转暖又吹来微微的凉风，气候变化不定。卖花声已经全过去了，夕阳西下，院内花落如雨，飘洒在井台上。
自从和她分别后(玉佩为玉雕的装饰品，挂在衣带上，丁东为玉佩互相碰撞时的声音)，阻碍重重，再也不能相见，使人多么惆怅。我为名利而漂流他方，老天如果知道我心中的思念之苦，也会为我而消瘦。想起她住的地方，在柳树边深深的巷中，花丛里那一道道门户，真使人不堪回首。多情的只有明月，它和当初一样，同时照着分在两地的我和她。
注释
小楼连苑横空：《艇斋诗话》少游词“小楼连苑横空”，为都下一妓姓楼，名琬，字东玉。词中欲藏“楼琬”二字。然少游亦自用出处，张籍诗云：“妾家高楼连苑起。”
绣毂（gǔ）雕鞍：指盛装华丽的车马。绣毂，华贵的车辆。雕鞍，雕饰有图案的马鞍，也借指马匹。
朱帘：红色帘子。唐王勃《滕王阁》诗：“画栋朝飞南浦云，珠帘暮卷西山雨。”
破暖：天气转暖。
弄晴微雨：微雨时停时下，似在逗弄晴天。
鸳甃（zhòu）：用对称的砖垒起的井壁。甃，音皱、井壁；井。
丁东：象声词，形容玉石、金属等撞击的声音。唐温庭筠《织锦词》：“丁东细漏侵琼瑟，影转高梧月初出。”
参差（cēn cī）：长短、高低不齐的样子。
名韁利锁：比喻功名利禄对人的羁绊。
“天还”二句：意为连天也不免此苦况而消瘦，何况于人。
重门：谓屋内的门。

水龙吟·小楼连苑横空创作背景
据徐培均先生《淮海居士长短句笺注》考证，此词元祐年间（1086-1090）作于蔡州。《高斋诗话》记载，秦观任蔡州教授时与营妓娄琬（字东玉）过从甚密，将这首词赠予她。

水龙吟·小楼连苑横空鉴赏
上片起首句，写女子登上挨着园林横空而起的小楼，看见恋人身骑骏马奔驰而去。此二句按景缀情，景物描写中缀入女主人公的别情。“朱帘”三句，承首句“小楼”而言，谓此时楼上佳人正身穿春衣，卷起朱帘，出神地凝望着远去的情郎。“破暖”三句，表面上是写微雨欲无还有，似逗弄晴天，实际上则缀入女子的思想感情，说它也象当前的天气一样阴晴不定。以下四句便写这位女子一个人楼上一直等待到红日西斜的过程以及当时的情绪。轻风送来的卖花声清脆悦耳，充满着生活的诱惑力，也容易引起人们对美好事物的追求。女主人公想去买上一枝插鬓边；可是纵有鲜花，谁适为容？故此她没有心思买花，只好让卖花声过去，直到它过尽。“过尽”二字用得极妙，从中可以想象得到女主人公谛听的神态、想买又不愿买的惋惜之情。更为巧妙的是，词人将声音的过去同时光的流逝结合一起写，状画出女主人公绵绵不尽的感情。歇拍二句，则是以景结情。落红成阵，飞遍鸳甃，景象是美丽的，感情却是悲伤的。花辞故枝，象征着行人离去，也象征着红颜憔悴，最易使人伤怀。不言愁而愁自其中，因而蕴藉含蓄，带有悠悠不尽的情味。
下片从男方着笔，写别后情怀。“玉佩丁东别后”，虽嵌入“东玉”二字，然无人工痕迹，且比起首二句凝炼准确，读后颇有“环佩人归”之感。“怅佳期、参差难又”，是说再见不易。参差犹差池，即蹉跎、失误。刚刚言别，马上又担心重逢难再，可见人虽远去，而留恋之情犹萦回脑际。至“名韁利锁”三句，始点出不得不与情人分别的原因。为了功名富贵，不得不抛下情人，词人思想上是矛盾的、痛苦的，因此发出了诅咒。“和天也瘦”句从李贺《金铜仙人辞汉歌》中“天若有情天亦老”化来。但以瘦易老，却别有情味，明王世贞对此极为赞赏，因为它概括了人物的思想矛盾，突出了相思之苦。“花下”三句，照应首句，回忆别前欢聚之地。此时他虽策马远去，途中犹频频回首，瞻望女子所住的“花下重门，柳边深巷”。着以“不堪”二字，更加刻划出难耐的心情，难言的痛苦。煞尾三句，颇饶馀韵，写对月怀人情景，颇有“见月而不见人之憾”（《草堂诗余隽》卷二）。
全词以景起，以景结，而其中一以贯之的则是作者执着的情愫。对一个沦落风尘的薄命女子，作者竟钟情若此，这决非为征管逐弦而出入青楼的薄幸子弟所能望其项背。

秦观（1049-1100）字太虚，又字少游，别号邗沟居士，世称淮海先生。汉族，北宋高邮（今江苏）人，官至太学博士，国史馆编修。秦观一 生坎坷，所写诗词，高古沉重，寄托身世，感人至深。秦观生前行踪所至之处，多有遗迹。如浙江杭州的秦少游祠，丽水的秦少游塑像、淮海先生祠、莺花亭；青田的秦学士祠；湖南郴州三绝碑；广西横县的海棠亭、醉乡亭、淮海堂、淮海书院等。秦观墓在无锡惠山之北粲山上，墓碑上书“秦龙图墓”几个大字。有秦家村、秦家大院以及省级文物保护单位古文游台。
