译文
那华丽的高楼上深锁着一个多情之人，清冷的漫漫冬夜却无人和她共度。独守空闺之时，更怕看见枕头、被子上绣着的成双成对的鸳凤，烦闷的她无心解衣，拥被而眠。
没来由地，忽然画角声起，惊动了警卫森严的整个城池，也打破了她的新梦。望窗外月光铺地，映着严霜，听《梅花三弄》的乐曲幽幽响起，一曲终了，犹自辗转难眠。这万般凄冷，如何消磨？
注释
此调汲古阁本作《虞美人影》。《永乐大典》卷3005误作晏几道词，《古今别肠词选》又误作裴度词。故人在此词中所指并非一般朋友，而是指恋人或夫婿。
玉楼：汲古阁本误作“秦楼”。
羞见：怕见。《诗词曲语辞汇释》卷五：“羞，犹‘怕’也；亦犹云‘怕见’也。”又云： “苏轼《题织锦图上回文》诗： ‘羞看一首回文锦，锦似文君别恨深。’羞看，怕看也。”
无端句：无端，没来由，无缘无故。严城，防守严密之城。皆城门早闭迟开，实行宵禁，并鼓角警戒。
月华；月光。
听彻句：谓听完《梅花三弄》一曲，听彻，听毕。曲终，谓之“彻”。唐王武陵《王将军宅夜听歌》： “一曲听初彻，几年愁暂开。”《梅花弄》，汉《横吹曲》名，相传据晋桓伊笛曲《三调》改编；后为琴曲，凡三叠，故称《梅花三弄》。

少游词的基本风格为雅丽，但也有少量俚俗之作，吴梅曾举俚俗之词数首，惟不及此。可见此词既雅又俗，殊难界定，可以雅俗共赏视之。
“玉楼深锁薄情种”，意谓词中女子被“薄情郎”深锁闺中。在中国传统文学中，一般称男子为薄情郎或薄幸，这里的“薄情种”概指夫婿。古代女子极少与外界接触，遇到夫婿外出，自有被深锁玉楼之感了。
词在介绍环境、引出人物之后，便以情语抒写长夜难眠的心境。“清夜”，写夜间的清冷沉寂，“悠悠”状夜晚的漫长。悠悠春夜，闺人独处，备觉凄凉。而着以“谁共”二字，则更加突出孤栖之苦。又以问句出之，便渐渐逗出相思之意。此时她惟见一床绣着鸳鸯的锦被、一双绣着凤凰的枕头。凤凰鸳鸯，皆为匹鸟。这对单栖的女主人公来说，无异是强烈的对比、辛辣的讽刺。鸟儿尚且成双作对，人儿反而孤眠。因此说是“羞见”。这二字用得极好，既通俗，又准确。以“羞见枕衾鸳风”烘托人物的内心活动，也极为贴切。歇拍“闷则和衣拥”，清人彭孙通谓“新奇之甚”。可这里俚语，也就是话在人民口头的语言，一般雅词中是不用的。少游这里用了，就显得真挚、坦率，富有生活气息。在这一句中，“闷”字似更为要紧，女主人翁因为被玉楼深锁，无人共度长夜，所以心头感到闷得慌。闷而无可排解，只得和衣拥衾而卧。因此这一句是上阕的结穴所在。
下阕写女主人翁梦醒。她拥衾而卧，似乎睡着了，人梦了。依词意，她似乎梦得很甜美。但刚刚人梦，就被城门楼上传来的画角声惊醒。“无端画角严城动，惊破一番新梦”，意境好似李清照《念奴娇》中的“被冷香消新梦觉，不许愁人不起”。不过这里的新梦是被画角声所惊醒罢了。梦被惊醒，睁眼看看室内，照理应该仍是“羞见枕衾鸳风”，仍是“闷则和衣拥”。然而这样写，词情便没有发展，境界更显得重复。于是词人宕开一笔，从室内写到室外。
室外的景象，同样写得很冷静，但语言却变得更为雅丽一些。此刻已到深夜，月亮洒下一片清光，地上铺着浓重的白霜。月冷霜寒，境界极其凄清。这也是主人翁心境的写照，即王国维《人间词话》所云“有我之境”是也。在此境界中，主人翁似乎谛听着外面的一切，刚听罢严城中传来的画角声，又传来一阵哀怨的乐曲——《梅花三弄》。听《梅花弄》而曰“彻”，说明她从头至尾听到最后一遍，其耿耿不寐，可以想见。这结尾二句，紧承“梦破”句意，针门一线，衔接得妙，从视觉和听觉两方面刻画主人翁长夜不眠的情景，从而突出“忆故人”的“忆”字，语言清丽，情致雅逸，留有余味，耐人寻绎。

秦观（1049-1100）字太虚，又字少游，别号邗沟居士，世称淮海先生。汉族，北宋高邮（今江苏）人，官至太学博士，国史馆编修。秦观一 生坎坷，所写诗词，高古沉重，寄托身世，感人至深。秦观生前行踪所至之处，多有遗迹。如浙江杭州的秦少游祠，丽水的秦少游塑像、淮海先生祠、莺花亭；青田的秦学士祠；湖南郴州三绝碑；广西横县的海棠亭、醉乡亭、淮海堂、淮海书院等。秦观墓在无锡惠山之北粲山上，墓碑上书“秦龙图墓”几个大字。有秦家村、秦家大院以及省级文物保护单位古文游台。
