衔着泥土的燕子，飞到装饰华丽的大堂前，占据着梁间安稳的地方，体态轻盈只有主人伶爱，好烟缘可堪羡慕。
注释
占得：占据。
杏梁：用杏树所做的屋梁，泛指优质木材所做的梁柱。
因缘：指双燕美好的结合。
忆江南·衔泥燕创作背景
乾符五年中进士，中进士两年后黄巢起义攻破长安，在光启二年（公元886年）为避襄王李媪之乱，先流落吴越，后寄寓巴蜀，过着渡口杨花，狂雪任风吹般的飘荡生活，这首词作正是那时所作。
忆江南·衔泥燕鉴赏
这首词借物咏怀，表达了女主人公对美满爱情的追求。
暮春三月，繁花盛开，草木葱茏，一双燕子飞去飞回，匆匆忙忙的衔泥筑巢。它们将巢安安稳稳的筑在房屋的杏梁之上，终成就了美好的烟缘。而独处于闺中的女子勒？她看到了筑巢的燕子，它们双宿双飞的恩爱情态多么令她羡慕。
“衔泥燕，飞到画堂前。占得杏梁安稳处，”这三句写燕子筑巢，以动态咏物。“衔”、“飞”、“占”三个动作，便将燕子筑巢的全过程完整的写了出来，一气呵成。
“体轻唯有主人怜，堪羡好因缘。”这两句写闺中思妇的感叹。这首咏物词并非止于对燕子的描写，而是借物喻情，由燕及人。女主人公看到结伴而飞的燕子不禁感悟伤神她哀叹自己形单影只，无人怜爱，羡慕梁间燕子的美好烟缘。
这首小令仅仅二十七个字，却写得形神兼备，深隐含蓄，极富情致。语言通俗，感情真挚，带有浓郁的民间风味。

牛峤，字松卿（约公元890年前后在世），一字延峰，陇西人。生卒年均不详，约唐昭宗大顺初前后在世。乾符五年（公元878年）进士及第。历官拾遗，补尚书郎，后人又称“牛给事”。以词著名，词格类温庭筠。原有歌诗集三卷，今存词三十三首，（见《花间集》）诗六首。
