译文
深秋霜降时节，水位下降，远处江心的沙洲都露出来了。酒力减退了，才觉察到微风吹过，让人觉得凉飕飕的。破帽却多情留恋，不肯被风吹落。
重阳节如何度过，只借酒消忧，打发时光而已，世间万事都是转眼成空的梦境，因而不要再提往事。重阳节后菊花色香均会大减，连迷恋菊花的蝴蝶，也会感叹发愁了。
注释
南乡子：唐教坊曲名，后用为词牌。原为单调，有二十七字、二十八字、三十字各体，平仄换韵。单调始自后蜀欧阳炯。南唐冯延巳始增为双调。冯词平韵五十六字，十句，上下片各四句用韵。另有五十八字体。又名《好离乡》、《蕉叶怨》等。
重九：农历九月初九重阳节。
涵辉楼：在黄冈县西南。徐君猷：名大受，当时黄州知州。
水痕收：指水位降低。
浅碧：水浅而绿。
鳞鳞：形容水波如鱼鳞一般。
若为酬：怎样应付过去。
尊：同“樽”，酒杯。
休休：不要，此处意思是不要再提往事。

这首词是苏轼贬谪黄州期间，于元丰五年（1082年）重阳日郡中涵辉楼宴席上为黄州知州徐君猷而作。

词的上片写楼中远眺情景。首句“霜降水痕收，浅碧鳞鳞露远洲”，描绘大江两岸晴秋景象。江上水浅，是深秋霜降季节现象，以“水痕收”表之。“浅碧”承上句江水，“鳞鳞”是水泛微波，似鱼鳞状：“露远洲”，水位下降，露出江心沙洲，“远”字体现的是登楼遥望所见。两句是此时此地即目之景，勾勒出天高气清、明丽雄阔的秋景。
“酒力渐消风力软，飕飕，破帽多情却恋头”，此三句写酒后感受。“酒力渐消”，皮肤敏感，故觉有“风力”。而风本甚微，故觉其“力软”。风力虽“软”，仍觉有“飕飕”凉意。但风力再软，仍不至于落帽。此三句以“风力”为轴心，围绕它来发挥。晋时孟嘉落帽于龙山，是唐宋诗词常用的典故。苏轼对这一典故加以反用，说破帽对他的头很有感情，不管风怎样吹，抵死不肯离开。“破帽”这里具有象征隐喻意义，指的是世事的纷纷扰扰、官场的勾心斗角。作者说破帽“多情恋头”，不仅不厌恶，反而深表喜悦，这其实是用戏谑的手法，表达自己渴望超脱而又无法真正超脱的无可奈何。
下片就涵辉楼上宴席，抒发感慨。“佳节若为酬，但把清樽断送秋”两句，化用杜牧《重九齐山登高》诗“但将酩酊酬佳节，不用登临怨落晖”句意。“断送”，此即打发走之意。政治上所受重大打击，使他对待世事的态度有所变化，由忧惧转为达观，这乃是他黄州时期所领悟到的安心之法。
歇拍三句申说为何要以美酒断送秋。“万事到头都是梦”是化用宋初潘阆“万事到头都是梦，休嗟百计不如人”句意。“明日黄花蝶也愁”反用唐郑谷咏《十日菊》中“节去蜂愁蝶不知，晓庭还绕折残枝”句意，意谓明日之菊，色香均会大减，已非今日之菊，连迷恋菊花的蝴蝶，也会为之叹惋伤悲。此句以蝶愁喻良辰易逝，好花难久，正因为如此，此时对此盛开之菊，更应开怀畅饮，尽情赏玩。
“万事到头都是梦，休休”，这与苏轼别的词中所发出的“人间如梦”、“世事一场大梦”、“未转头时皆梦”、“古今如梦，何曾梦觉”，“君臣一梦，古今虚名”等慨叹异曲同工，表现了苏轼后半生的生活态度。他看来，世间万事，皆是梦境，转眼成空；荣辱得失、富贵贫贱，都是过眼云烟；世事的纷纷扰扰，不必耿耿于怀。如果命运不允许自己有为，就饮酒作乐，终老余生；如有机会一展抱负，就努力为之。这种进取与退隐、积极与消极的矛盾双重心理，在词中得到了集中体现。

苏轼（1037－1101），北宋文学家、书画家、美食家。字子瞻，号东坡居士。汉族，四川人，葬于颍昌（今河南省平顶山市郏县）。一生仕途坎坷，学识渊博，天资极高，诗文书画皆精。其文汪洋恣肆，明白畅达，与欧阳修并称欧苏，为“唐宋八大家”之一；诗清新豪健，善用夸张、比喻，艺术表现独具风格，与黄庭坚并称苏黄；词开豪放一派，对后世有巨大影响，与辛弃疾并称苏辛；书法擅长行书、楷书，能自创新意，用笔丰腴跌宕，有天真烂漫之趣，与黄庭坚、米芾、蔡襄并称宋四家；画学文同，论画主张神似，提倡“士人画”。著有《苏东坡全集》和《东坡乐府》等。
