腰刀首帕从军，戍楼独倚间凝眺。中原气象，狐居兔穴，暮烟残照。投笔书怀，枕戈待旦，陇西年少。欢光阴掣电，易生髀肉，不如易腔改调。
世变沧海成田，奈群生、几番惊扰。干戈烂漫，无时休息，凭谁驱扫。眼底山河，胸中事业，一声长啸。太平时、相将近也，稳稳百年燕赵。

译文
我从小就腰佩战刀、头裹头巾去应征入伍，成为抗敌军队中的一员。每当我闲暇时，便独自登上戍楼眺望那失去的中原故地。但见中原大地一片残破荒凉，到处是野狐、野兔活动的踪影，人烟稀少，在夕阳暮霭中更显得凄凉无比。
时事变幻莫测，政权更迭频繁，兵连祸结，战事不断，百姓们受尽了战争的侵扰，无法休养生息，要靠谁去驱逐侵略者，扫平中原呢？望着眼中破碎的山河，想到自己肩负的恢复中原的宏图大业，常常禁不住仰天长啸。我们恢复中原的那一天就要到来了，百姓将很快迎来太平时日，北方地区将继续在宋王朝的统治之下延续下去。
注释
戍楼：指边防上的岗楼。
投笔：用班超“投笔从戎”之典。
枕戈待旦：语出《晋书刘传》，意即枕着兵器躺着等待天亮，比喻杀敌报国的心情急切，一刻也不松懈。
陇西：泛指陇山以西地区。
掣电：即电闪，形容迅速。
髀肉：大腿上的肌肉。易生髀肉，感叹久处安逸，光阴易逝，思图 有所作为。
群生：指宋朝百姓。
干戈烂漫：此处形容刀光剑影，兵连祸结的样子。
相将：行将，即将。
燕赵：均为古国名，战国七雄之二，这里泛指北方地区。

水龙吟·腰刀首帕从军鉴赏
开头五句写词人在边防岗楼上远眺中原大地，被荒凉而残破的景象所震撼。“腰刀首帕”采用示现的修辞法，刻画出从军的装束，其中“首帕”源自头裹黄巾起义的黄巾军的装束。“狐居兔穴”，是描写战后残破荒凉景象的典型写法，与《古诗十九首》中的“兔从狗窦入，雉从梁上飞”及杜甫《无家别》中“但对狐与狸，竖毛怒我啼”的描写相近，而且还含有鹊巢鸠占、中原沦陷之意。而后六句连用数典，抒豪情，表决心，委婉而深刻。
“世变沧海成田，标群生几番惊扰。干戈烂漫，无时休息，凭谁驱扫？”这五句表达了词人对饱受战争之苦的人民的无限同情，并意识到了肩上的责任。一句“凭谁驱扫”的发问，使无数爱国志士意识到了艰巨而神圣的使命感，催人奋进。
“眼底山河，胸中事业，一声长啸。”三句激情澎湃迸发，让人不禁联想起那大呼“还我河山”的岳飞所高唱的“抬望眼，仰天长啸，壮怀激烈。”（《满江红》）
“太平时，相将近也，稳稳百年燕赵。”“燕赵”自古便为汉族统治地区，此以“燕赵”代北方，意含驱除外族之意。结拍二句虽然从历史的眼光来看，有点不切合实际，但它确实抒发了词人强烈的民族自豪感和自信心，很能鼓舞人心。

李璮（？～1262），中国金末山东军阀李全之子（一说养子），小字松寿。1227年李全降蒙古，被任为山东淮南楚州行省（又称益都行省）。1231年李全死，不久李璮袭为益都行省，拥军自重。1259年，李璮加速准备反叛蒙古，一面进犯南宋，取海州等4城，一面积极加固益都城防，储存粮草，截留盐课。1262年在在进攻济南时，应者寥寥，军心离散。七月，城破被俘，史天泽将其处死。
