常常恼恨言语的表达粗浅有限，不像人的心意那么丰富深厚。
今天两个人你看着我我看着你，默默地用眼神传达着心中复杂的情感。
注释
视刀环歌：刘禹锡创乐府新题。典出《汉书·李广苏建传》，含盼人早日还归之意。
恨：遗憾。
人意：人的意愿、情绪。
脉脉：默默地用眼神或行动表达情意的样子。万重心：极言内心感情的复杂。
视刀环歌鉴赏
《视刀环歌》同《泰娘歌》《更衣曲》《竞渡曲》一样，是刘禹锡创作的一首“新乐府”诗歌。这首新乐府的题目是用典。据《汉书·李广苏建传》记载，汉昭帝继位后，大将军霍光、左将军上官桀辅政，他们都与兵败投降匈奴的李陵关系不错，希望能把李陵召回汉朝。于是派遣任立政等三人到了匈奴。匈奴单于设酒招待汉使者，李陵、卫律都在座。立政他们看到李陵，却没有机会私下交谈，于是就给李陵使眼色，“数数自循其刀环，握其足，阴谕之，言可还归汉也”。也就是几次自已抚摩把玩自己的刀环，握自己的脚，暗示李陵，意思是可以归还汉朝了。“环”谐音“还”，握脚表示走路离开。因为刀环在大刀头部，所以古人常以“大刀头”作为“还”字的隐语。如《玉台新咏·古绝句》：“藁砧今何在？山上复有山。何当大刀头？破镜飞上天。”由此可知，刘禹锡乐府新题《视刀环歌》，暗含的意思是希望思念的人尽早归还。
把诗的题目和内容联系起来看，刘禹锡可能要表达的是相爱的人就要分别时的情景，彼此依依不舍，千言万语却不知从何说起，只有四目相对，含情脉脉地来传达内心复杂的情意。因为这首诗没有特定、具体的写作背景，所以它所传递的信息就有了很强的张力，并不一定局限于爱情，也可能隐含着作者对自身遭遇的寄托感慨。
“常恨言语浅，不如人意深”这两句诗，实际上道出了人们经常遇到的一种状况，即语言常常并不能准确地来表达内心想要表达的东西。钱锺书在《管锥编》中就曾说：“语言文字为人生日用之所必须，著书立说尤寓托焉而不得须臾离者也。顾求全责善，啧有烦言。作者每病其传情、说理、状物、述事，未能无欠无余，恰如人意中之所欲出。务致密则苦其粗疏，钩深赜又嫌其浮泛；怪其粘着欠灵活者有之，恶其暧昧不清明者有之。立言之人句斟字酌、慎择精研，而受言之人往往不获尽解，且易曲解而滋误解。‘常恨言语浅，不如人意深’，岂独男女之情而已哉？”

刘禹锡（772－842），字梦得，汉族，中国唐朝彭城（今徐州）人，祖籍洛阳，唐朝文学家，哲学家，自称是汉中山靖王后裔，曾任监察御史，是王叔文政治改革集团的一员。唐代中晚期著名诗人，有“诗豪”之称。他的家庭是一个世代以儒学相传的书香门第。政治上主张革新，是王叔文派政治革新活动的中心人物之一。后来永贞革新失败被贬为朗州司马（今湖南常德）。据湖南常德历史学家、收藏家周新国先生考证刘禹锡被贬为朗州司马其间写了著名的“汉寿城春望”。
