秋天离别时两相顾盼，像飞蓬一样到处飘荡。没有去求仙，真愧对西晋那位炼丹的葛洪。每天痛快地饮酒狂歌白白消磨日子。像您这样意气豪迈的人，如此逞雄究竟是为了谁？
注释
飘蓬：常用来比喻人的行踪飘忽不定。
未就：没有成功。丹砂：即朱砂。道教认为炼砂成药，服之可以延年益寿。飞扬跋扈：不守常规，狂放不羁。此处作褒义词用。
赠李白创作背景
此诗作于天宝四载（745年）秋。天宝三载（744年）初夏，杜甫与刚被唐玄宗赐金放还的李白在洛阳相识，遂相约同游梁宋（今河南省开封市、商丘市一带）。这年秋天，杜甫与李白在鲁郡（今山东兖州）相别，杜甫写了这首赠诗。这是现存杜诗中最早的一首绝句。

赠李白鉴赏
杜甫作七绝《赠李白》的当年秋天，李白也写下了《鲁郡东石门送杜二甫》诗。诗云：“飞蓬各自远，且尽手中杯。”从中流露出诗人依依惜别的深情。这与杜诗中的“秋来相顾尚飘蓬”句，可以参照。李白被赐金放还，与杜甫幸会于山东之时，由于有相同的坎坷遭遇，因而情志相投。
此诗表面看来，似乎杜甫在规劝李白：要像道家葛洪那样潜心于炼丹求仙，不要痛饮狂歌、虚度时日，何必飞扬跋扈、人前称雄。实际上，杜诗有言外之意：李白藐视权贵，拂袖而去，沦落飘泊，虽尽日痛饮狂歌，然终不为统治者赏识；虽心雄万夫，而难以称雄，虽有济世之才，然不能施展。杜甫在赞叹之余，感慨万千，扼腕之情，油然而生。遂将自己的愤懑之情，诉之笔端，乃至于运用反诘的语气，发出似在埋怨、实则不平的询问。他的感慨既是为李白而发，也是为自己而发的。
此诗突现了一个狂字，显示出一个傲字。傲骨嶙峋，狂荡不羁，这就是杜甫对于李白的写照。在这首《赠李白》中，正突现出狂与傲的风采、骨力、气度，显示出李白安能摧眉折腰事权贵的精神，这正是此诗的诗眼和精髓。它不仅同杜甫歌咏李白的其他诗篇是一脉相承的，而且也形象地揭示了李白的性格和气质特征。
这首七绝，沉郁有致，抑扬顿挫，跌宕起伏。末句用反诘口吻，把全诗推向了最高潮。清初钱谦益在评注此诗时，独注“飞扬跋扈”句，其余一概略而不论，可谓独具慧眼，也表明它在全诗中的重要价值：“按太白性倜傥，好纵横术。少任侠，手刃数人，故公以飞扬跋扈目之。犹云平生飞动意也。旧注俱大谬。”（《钱注杜诗》卷九）是说从新的角度和侧面颂扬了李白的豪侠精神，并突出“飞扬跋扈”的飞动性。仇兆鳌注云：“飞扬，浮动之貌。跋扈，强梁之意。考《说文》：扈，尾也。跋扈，犹大鱼之跳跋其尾也。”（《杜诗详注》卷之一）此虽就字注字，就词注词，但在《赠李白》中，却是用来象征李白豪放不羁的精神。
此诗言简意赅，韵味无穷。为了强化全诗流转的节奏、气势，则以“痛饮”对“狂歌”，“飞扬”对“跋扈”；且“痛饮狂歌”与“飞扬跋扈”，“空度日”与“为谁雄”又两两相对。这就形成了一个飞动的氛围，进一步突现了李白的傲岸与狂放。

杜甫（712－770），字子美，自号少陵野老，世称“杜工部”、“杜少陵”等，汉族，河南府巩县（今河南省巩义市）人，唐代伟大的现实主义诗人，杜甫被世人尊为“诗圣”，其诗被称为“诗史”。杜甫与李白合称“李杜”，为了跟另外两位诗人李商隐与杜牧即“小李杜”区别开来，杜甫与李白又合称“大李杜”。他忧国忧民，人格高尚，他的约1400余首诗被保留了下来，诗艺精湛，在中国古典诗歌中备受推崇，影响深远。759-766年间曾居成都，后世有杜甫草堂纪念。
