清浚，字天渊，别号随庵，1328年(元泰定五年)，出生于浙江台州路黄岩县(今浙江省黄岩县)，父亲李益，母应氏。清浚“幼学乡校，颖悟特异，然不甘处俗，年十三依妙明出家”。次年受具，从此随侍妙明“坐究行参”多年。1368年，明王朝建立，朱元璋登极称帝，定都南京。是年，清浚被当地郡守邀请出世住持万寿寺。1371年，元朝残余势力基本肃清，大规模的战争结束，为慰祭无数在战争中丧生的人和在国内制造和平气息等多种原因，明太祖在首都的蒋山(今钟山)亲设普度大会，召全国“有道沙门十人”，清浚即居其一。
