有大人先生，以天地为一朝，以万期为须臾，日月为扃牖，八荒为庭衢。行无辙迹，居无室庐，幕天席地，纵意所如。止则操卮执觚，动则挈榼提壶，唯酒是务，焉知其余？
译文： 有一个大人先生，他把天地开辟以来的漫长时间看做是一朝，他把一万年当做一眨眼工夫，他把天上的日月当做是自己屋子的门窗，他把辽阔的远方当做是自己的庭院。他放旷不羁，以天为帐幕，以大地为卧席，他自由自在。停歇时，他便捧着卮子，端着酒杯；走动时，他也提着酒壶，他只以喝酒为要事，又怎肯理会酒以外的事！
注释： 酒德：饮酒的德性。颂：文体的一种。大人：古时用以指称圣人或有道德的人。先生：对有德业者的尊称。大人先生，此处作者用以自代。朝：平旦至食时为朝。万期：万年。期：周年。扃牖：门窗。扃：门；牖：窗。八荒：四方与八隅合称八方，八方极远的地方为八荒。幕、席：都是意动用法，以……为幕，以……为席。如：往。卮：古时一种圆形盛酒器。觚：古时一种饮酒器，长身，细腰，阔底，大口。挈：提。榼：古时一种盛酒器。务：勉力从事。
有贵介公子，搢绅处士，闻吾风声，议其所以。乃奋袂攘襟，怒目切齿，陈说礼法，是非锋起。先生于是方捧甖承槽、衔杯漱醪；奋髯踑踞，枕麴藉糟；无思无虑，其乐陶陶。兀然而醉，豁尔而醒；静听不闻雷霆之声，熟视不睹泰山之形，不觉寒暑之切肌，利欲之感情。俯观万物，扰扰焉，如江汉之载浮萍；二豪侍侧焉，如蜾蠃之与螟蛉。
译文： 有尊贵的王孙公子和大带的隐士，他俩听到我这样之后，便议论起我来。两个人揎起袖子，撩起衣襟要动手，瞪大两眼，咬牙切齿，陈说着世俗礼法，陈说是非，讲个没完。当他们讲得正起劲时，大人先生却捧起了酒器，把杯中美酒倾入口中，悠闲地摆动胡子，大为不敬地伸着两脚坐地上，他枕着酒母，垫着酒糟，不思不想，陶陶然进入快乐乡。他无知无觉地大醉，很久才醒酒，静心听时，他听不到雷霆的巨声；用心看时，他连泰山那么大也不看清；寒暑冷热的变化，他感觉不到；利害欲望这些俗情，也不能让他动心。他俯下身子看世间万事万物，见它们像江汉上的浮萍一般乱七八糟，不值得一顾；公子处士在他身边，他认为自己与他们更像蜾蠃和螟蛉一样。
注释： 贵介：尊贵。搢绅：插芴于带间。搢：插。绅，大带。古时仕宦者垂绅插芴，故称士大夫为搢绅。搢一作为缙。处士：有才德而隐居不仕的人。风声：名声。所以：所为之得失。奋袂攘襟：挥动衣袖，捋起衣襟，形容激动的神态。奋：猛然用力。袂：衣袖。攘：揎，捋。襟：衣的交领，后指衣的前幅。切齿：咬牙。锋起：齐起，谓来势凶猛。锋一作为蜂。于是：在这时。甖：大肚小口的陶制容器。甖一作为罂。槽：酿酒或注酒器。漱醪：口中含着浊酒。漱：含着。醪：浊酒。奋髯：撩起胡子。髯：颊毛。箕踞：伸两足，手据膝，若箕状。箕踞为对人不敬的坐姿。枕麴藉糟：枕着酒麴，垫着酒糟。麴：酒母。藉：草垫。陶陶：和乐貌。兀然：无知觉的样子。豁尔：此处指酒醒时深邃、空虚的样子。切：接触。感情，感于情，因所感而情动。扰扰焉：纷乱的样子。二豪：指公子与处士。蜾蠃：青黑色细腰蜂。螟蛉：蛾的幼虫。此处以二虫比处士与公子。
