昔疏广、受二子，以年老，一朝辞位而去。于是公卿设供帐，祖道都门外，车数百辆；道路观者，多叹息泣下，共言其贤。汉史既传其事，而后世工画者，又图其迹，至今照人耳目，赫赫若前日事。
译文： 古时候疏广、疏受叔侄二人，因为年老，同一天辞掉职位离去。当时，朝廷中的公卿摆设宴席，在京都门外为他们饯行，车驾有数百辆之多；道路上旁观的，有很多人为之感叹并流下了眼泪，无不称赞他们贤明。汉代的史书既记载了他们的事迹，而后世擅长绘画的人，又画下了他们的形象，到今天依然光彩照人，清清楚楚的仿佛是前不久发生的事情。
注释： 杨少尹：名巨源，蒲州（今山西水济）人。疏广、受：即疏广、硫受，西汉人。疏广为太傅，其侄疏受为少傅。年老同时辞官，百官盛会欢送，封建时代传为美谈。设供张：即设供帐，陈设帐度举行酒宴。祖道：钱行。汉史：指《汉书》。
国子司业杨君巨源，方以能诗训后进，一旦以年满七十，亦白相去，归其乡。世常说古今人不相及，今杨与二疏，其意岂异也？
译文： 国子监司业杨巨源，正以他善于写诗来教育学生，一旦到了七十岁，也禀白丞相离职回归他的故乡。世上常说古时的人和现今的人是不能并论的，而今杨巨源与疏氏二人，他们的思想难道有什么差异吗？
注释： 国子司业：国子监的司业。国子：唐代最高学府；司业：学官，是国子监的副职。
予忝在公卿后，遇病不能出，不知杨侯去时，城门外送者几人，车几辆，马几匹，道旁观者，亦有叹息知其为贤与否；而太史氏又能张大其事为传，继二疏踪迹否，不落莫否。见今世无工画者，而画与不画，固不论也。
译文： 我攀附于公卿之末，恰逢生病不能出去送行。不知道杨少尹走的时候，都城门外送行的有多少人？车有多少辆？马有多少匹？道边的旁观者，也有为他的行为感叹，知道他是贤者的，还是没有呢？而史官能不能铺张渲染他的事迹，写成传记以做为疏氏二人的事迹的继续呢？不会冷落寂寞吧？我看到现在世上没有擅长绘画的，而画还是不画，也就不必考虑了！
注释： 忝（tiǎn）：有愧于。谦词。
然吾闻杨侯之去，相有爱而惜之者，白以为其都少尹，不绝其禄。又为歌诗以劝之，京师之长于诗者，亦属而和之。又不知当时二疏之去，有是事否。古今人同不同，未可知也。
译文： 然而我听说杨侯的辞归，丞相中有敬重而怜惜他的，奏明皇上任命他为其故乡河中府的少尹，以便不断绝他的俸禄；又亲自写诗来慰勉他。京城中擅长写诗的人，也作诗来应和。又不知道古时候疏氏二人的归乡，有这样的事吗？古人与今人相同还是不同，不得而知啊！
中世士大夫，以官为家，罢则无所于归。杨侯始冠，举于其乡，歌《鹿鸣》而来也。今之归，指其树曰：“某树，吾先人之所种也；某水、某丘，吾童子时所钓游也。”乡人莫不加敬，诫子孙以杨侯不去其乡为法。古之所谓乡先生没而可祭于社者，其在斯人欤？其在斯人欤？
译文： 中古以后的士大夫，往往依靠官俸来养家，罢官之后就无归宿之处。杨侯刚成年，便在他的家乡被荐举，参加了《鹿鸣》宴而来到朝廷的。现在回到故乡，指着乡间的树说：“那些树是我的先人种的。”“那条溪流，那座山丘，是我小时候钓鱼、游戏的地方。”故乡的人没有不对他表示敬意的，人们告诫子孙要以杨侯不舍弃故土的美德做为榜样。古人所谓“乡先生”，逝去之后能够在乡里社庙中享受祭祀的，大概就是这样的人吧？
注释： 冠：古代男子二十岁时，行冠礼以示成年。举：通过科举考试。法：仿效。没：通“殁”，死。

韩愈（768～824）字退之，唐代文学家、哲学家、思想家，河阳（今河南省焦作孟州市）人，汉族。祖籍河北昌黎，世称韩昌黎。晚年任吏部侍郎，又称韩吏部。谥号“文”，又称韩文公。他与柳宗元同为唐代古文运动的倡导者，主张学习先秦两汉的散文语言，破骈为散，扩大文言文的表达功能。宋代苏轼称他“文起八代之衰”，明人推他为唐宋八大家之首，与柳宗元并称“韩柳”，有“文章巨公”和“百代文宗”之名，作品都收在《昌黎先生集》里。韩愈在思想上是中国“道统”观念的确立者，是尊儒反佛的里程碑式人物。
