唐代：罗隐
寒城猎猎戍旗风，独倚危楼怅望中。
译文：我独自一人倚偎高楼怅然远望，无限寒意的边城戍旗飘扬猎猎生风。
注释：夏州：即赫连勃勃修建的统万城，北魏置夏州，唐为朔方节度使所辖。又名榆林，城在无定河支流清水东岸；紧倚长城，向来以险隘著称。故址在今陕西省靖边县境内。猎猎：风声。戍旗：要塞戍之旗。危楼：高楼。
万里山河唐土地，千年魂魄晋英雄。
译文：万里山河都是大唐的土地，在这土地上千百年来有多少戍边英雄为国献身捐躯。
注释：唐土地：指包括夏州在内的唐朝广阔国土。千古魂魄晋英雄：晋朝时期，北方大乱，五胡乱华，先后建有十六国，其中匈奴人、大夏世祖赫连勃勃，就是夏州城建城之人（当时叫做统万城）。大夏建国后，晋朝和大夏国的赫连勃勃作战于统万城，边塞战士死伤阵亡极多。
离心不忍听边马，往事应须问塞鸿。
译文：边疆的愁苦不忍心去倾听，以往的事情不堪去询问。
注释：离心：别离之情。边马：边塞地区的马。塞鸿：边塞的大雁。塞鸿秋季南来，春季北去，故古人常以之作比，表示对远离家乡的亲人的怀念。边塞鸿雁可以寄书，古人有“雁足传书”的故事。
好脱儒冠从校尉，一枝长戟六钧弓。
译文：最好脱掉文人的帽子去当一个武官，拿起武器去保卫国土立功边疆。
注释：儒冠：儒生戴的帽子，表明他们的身份，但不一定有特定社会地位。校尉：武职名。隋唐为武教官，位次将军。六钧弓：钧是古代重量计量单位之一，一钧相当于三十斤，六钧即拉力一百八十斤，用来比喻强弓。

罗隐（833-909），字昭谏，新城（今浙江富阳市新登镇）人，唐代诗人。生于公元833年（太和七年），大中十三年（公元859年）底至京师，应进士试，历七年不第。咸通八年（公元867年）乃自编其文为《谗书》，益为统治阶级所憎恶，所以罗衮赠诗说：“谗书虽胜一名休”。后来又断断续续考了几年，总共考了十多次，自称“十二三年就试期”，最终还是铩羽而归，史称“十上不第”。黄巢起义后，避乱隐居九华山，光启三年（公元887年），55岁时归乡依吴越王钱镠，历任钱塘令、司勋郎中、给事中等职。公元909年（五代后梁开平三年）去世，享年77岁。
