大江东去，长安西去，为功名走遍天涯路。厌舟车，喜琴书，早星星鬓影瓜田暮。心待足时名便足。高，高处苦；低，低处苦。
译文：江水滔滔东流入海，车轮滚滚西往长安，我为了博取和保持功名走遍了天南海北。厌恶了车马舟船的旅途劳顿，喜欢悠闲自在地抚琴读书，我早已两鬓斑白像种瓜的召平到了暮年。心里知足了，功名也就满足了。深居高位，有高的苦处；身居低位，有低的苦处。
注释：山坡羊：曲牌名。北曲中吕宫、南曲商调，都有同名曲牌。长安：今西安。厌舟车：厌倦了舟车之苦，有了退隐之想。喜琴书：喜欢退隐弹琴读书。晋陶渊明《归去来兮辞》中云“乐琴书以消忧”。星星鬓影：两鬓斑白如星。待：将要。

薛昂夫(1267—1359) 元代散曲家。回鹘（即今维吾尔族）人。原名薛超吾，以第一字为姓。先世内迁，居怀孟路（治所在今河南沁阳）。祖、父皆封覃国公。汉姓为马，又字九皋，故亦称马昂夫、马九皋。据赵孟頫《薛昂夫诗集序》（《松雪斋文集》），他曾执弟子礼于刘辰翁(1234～1297)门下，约可推知他生年约在元初至元年间。历官江西省令史，佥典瑞院事、太平路总管、衢州路总管等职。薛昂夫善篆书，有诗名，诗集已佚。诗作存于《皇元风雅后集》、《元诗选》等集中。
